In line with its commitment to take initiatives that enhance the Islands’ cultural environment, the Vodafone Malta Foundation is supporting La Traviata – the much awaited annual opera in Gozo, to be held at Teatru Astra on Thursday 28th and Saturday 30th October.
La Traviata opens the month-long Festival Mediterranea which brings together the cultural milieu of Gozo, in music, its unparalleled prehistoric heritage, history, art, traditions, food and wine, and the island’s sheer beauty in autumn. The Verdi opera will bring together a selection of the best local talent and international artistes of repute who have carved a name for themselves in the opera scene worldwide.
Gemma Mifsud Bonnici from the Vodafone Malta Foundation expressed her pleasure in noting the ever-growing popularity of the annual Festival Mediterranea. The Festival not only attracts opera aficionados but also a wider circle of individuals who combine culture with Gozitan hospitality.
Gozitan soprano Miriam Cauchi, interpreting the demanding role of Violetta, Italian tenor Alessandro Liberatore as Alfredo and Italian baritone Marco Chingari as Germont are joined by a number of local singers in other principal parts as well as the Teatru Astra Opera Chorus. Italian artistic director Marco Gandini’s production of La Traviata in Gozo is only the second such public presentation. Prof. Mro. Joseph Vella will be conducting the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.
